Hello and welcome to those of you who are novices in the kitchen.
This is an introduction to the art of sauteing.
Simply stated, sauting is the process of browning food on one side, then the next in a small amount of oil or butter. It is a simply process which enhances the flavour of the food.

This technique is required in many of our recipes.

1 onion
2 tablespoons oil

Cut/chop onion into pieces.

Place frying pan on stove under low to medium heat.
Add oil, wait for about 30 seconds, and toss in the onions.

Allow the onions to fry for about 1 minute. Stir occasionally for an addition 1 to 2 minutes.

Do not allow the onions to burn.

Once they are golden in colour, they are ready.

Sauted onions are an excellent garnish for steaks and hamburgers.
